On Tuesday, Oct. 27, we held an event for the Professional Community of Offshore Structural Designers and Analysts at the American Bureau of Shipping office in the Houston Energy Corridor. This event provided a forum of information exchange between practitioners performing code checking and design assessment for offshore platforms and vessels.

We were extremely fortunate to have more than 40 customers and prospects attend the event. Some of these attendees included engineers from Shell, Chevron Shipping, Conoco Phillips, FloaTEC, Exmar Offshore, SBM Offshore, Houston Offshore, Wood Group, ABS and Zentech!

Our Vice President of Sales, Robert McLoughlin, proudly represented Saratech alongside Solutions Consultant Doug Logan and engineers Ryan Herron and Daniel Rubio. Dhruba Ghose from ABS organized the ABS speakers and reserved the facilities; we are grateful for all of Ghose’s help!

Our day started with a delicious lunch of gourmet pizza and refreshments provided by Saratech. The lunch was a fantastic way of informally meeting the attendees and encouraging professional networking! After lunch, we transitioned into the day’s sessions.

ABS and Saratech Consultant Brian Knouff and SDC Verifier shared information about current and emerging ABS and API code standards. They highlighted the trend of moving supplier based products away from in-house software.

Four one-hour presentations were successfully executed:

  • ABS Eagle Offshore Structure Assessment Program (OSAP)
  • ABS LRFD-Based Classification Criteria for Offshore Structures
  • Owner and CEO Wouter van den Bos presents SDC Verifier
  • Consultant Brian Knouff presents E&P migration to commercial code checking

These presentations were excellent and engaging. We were thrilled to see a high volume of attendee interest! In particular, there was a definite noted interest in SDC Verifier; we are currently following up with SDCV trial software and quotations.

Here at Saratech, we are in the process of setting up a LinkedIn user group under our official account to act as a focal point for the offshore community. Currently, there is a strong desire to schedule a follow up meeting in the new year. We are looking forward to future participation from other industry experts! Stay tuned for updates!
